Are you tired of wrapping a little string of floss around your fingers to clean between your chompers? If so, our dentist, Dr. Tom G. Schleicher, and our dental team have some good news for you: There are other oral hygiene tools you can use to clean the crevices of your smile. This means you don’t necessarily have to use floss every day! We would be happy to tell you about the other tools you can use.

The first is a dental pick. A dental pick is a small tool that looks almost like a toothpick, except it has a “u” shaped end on one side that has floss wrapped from one side to the other. This is a great tool that can help you floss your smile before bed or even throughout the day at the office! All you need to do is push the floss through the crevice of the teeth and clean the space and gumline.

The second is an electric flosser. An electric flosser can come in a variety of different forms, like vibrating flossers, power flossers, or air flossers. Power and air flossers can help if you have spacing issues in the mouth, and vibrating flossers can clean the entire tooth and gums. To find out which tool is best for you, ask your dentist.

The third is an oral irrigator. An oral irrigator is a wand the sprays water into your mouth. All you need to do is fill the reservoir with water, place the tip of the wand inside your mouth, close your lips around it, and turn it on. Move the wand between each tooth and it will wash away the particles in the space.
